There are a few things happening this week. There will be a BBQ and beer tasting at Terra restaurant in Hillcrest on Wednesday, August 18th at 6:30 p.m.. There will be Adobo grilled flank steak, Thai spiced fruit salad, smoked salmon and dill pasta, house smoked baby back ribs as well as beers from Ballast Point, Stone and Hang Ten. The cost is $30 of which $20 goes to benefit Ordinary Miracles. The Mammoth 4th annual Festival of Beers and Bluesapalooza is going on August 20-21. For info call (760) 934-3498. There will be great beers as well as excellent fishing, hiking, and mountain biking in the local mountain areas.
The entry forms for the first annual Strong Ale Homebrew Competition are in. Entries will be accepted from Friday, November 12, through Friday, November 19. Entries may be sent or hand delivered to :

There will be a beginner brewing class Thursday the 26th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:45. The class is FREE! The class covers beginning to intermediate brewing from brewing to bottling.

1 oz. Columbus finish last minute

12 lbs. Pale Malt extract
1/2 lb. 80 L Crystal Malt
1/2 lb. Dark Brit. Crystal
1/2 lb. Dark Carastan
1/8 lb. Special B
1 1/2 oz. Galena Boil 60 minutes
1 oz. Centennial 30 minutes
1 oz. Cascade last minute
1 oz. Centennial Dry hop
White Labs California Ale Yeast
Double Coffee Honey Imperial Stout (all grain)
10 lbs.. Great Western 2-row
1 lb. 60 L Crystal Malt
1/2 lb. Kiln Kofee Malt
1/4 lb. Special B
1/2 lb. Chocolate Malt
1/2 lb. Roasted Barley
1 lb. Victory toasted malt
2 oz. Kent golding Boil 60 minutes
1 oz. Fuggle Boil 60 minutes
1 oz. Fuggle last minute
3 lbs. Honey added at end of boil
4 cups strong coffee added at end of boil
White Labs Irish Ale Yeast
To do an extract version use the same recipe only use 9 lbs.. Pale Malt extract instead of the Great Western 2-row.
