Home Brew Mart News Letter - November 15, 1999

There will be a free beginners brewing class this Tuesday, November 16th from 6:00-7:45 p.m. The class will be held at Home Brew Mart located at 5401 Linda Vista Road suite 406. The class will cover basic top intermediate brewing including selection of ingredients, cooking and bottling. There is no sign up required, just show up and bring a friend.

On the brewing frontier, The 3rd Annual Strong Ale Festival will be held December 3rd, 4th and 5th at the Carlsbad Pizza Port. This festival features beers over 8% alcohol including Barleywines, Imperial Stouts, Belgian Ales, Scotch Ales, and more! The fest starts at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The address is 571 Carlsbad Village Drive. The cost of the event is $10 to get in which includes a festival glass and three tasters. Additional tasters are $1 per 4 ounces. 1 lb. Caramunich

1/2 lb. Dark Crystal

2 oz. Eroica boil 60 minutes

1 oz. Centennial 30 Minutes

1 oz. Centennial last minute of boil

White Labs California Ale Yeast

Holiday Spice

6 lbs.. Light Malt Extract Syrup

3 lbs. Amber Malt Extract Syrup

1 lb. 60 L Crystal

1/4 lb. Special B

1/2 lb. Special Roast

2 oz. Fuggle Boil 1 hour

2 tsp Cinnamon last min of boil steep 10 min

2 tsp Allspice last min of boil steep 10 min

3 whole cloves last min of boil steep 10 min

1/2 tsp nutmeg last min of boil steep 10 min

1 vanilla bean last min of boil steep 10 min

White Labs English Ale yeast

Scotch Ale

11 lbs. Light Malt Extract Syrup

1 1/2 lb Scottish Crystal Malt

4 oz. Roasted Barley

3/4 lb Dark Crystal

2 oz. Kent Golding boil 90 minutes

1 oz. Stryian Golding last 5 minutes

Big Eye, named after the giant Big Eye Tuna is crafted with 100% Centennial hops, bittering, finishing and dry hop! Look for the new Big Eye shirts coming soon with logo painted by local artist Paul Elder. Big Eye will only be available at select bars and restaurants, and of course at the tasting bar in 4 oz tasters and to go jugs. Come by and sample our latest brews!

In other Ballast Point news Copper Ale will soon be in bottles. Yellowtail Pale Ale is currently available in 22 oz. bottles in local grocery stores and liquor stores around town. If you can’t find it call us and we will give you the nearest store, or come by the brewery to pick some up.
